There was no history of vomiting, heartburn, dysphagia, pain in abdomen, diarrhoea or constipation. Clinical examination of all the systems was normal. On upper G.I. endoscopy, there was an incidental f inding of ‘mucosal bridge’ in lower third of oesophagus with surrounding normal vascular pattern without any evidence of scar, erosion or venous prominence; gastro-oesophageal junction was 38 cm from incisor teeth. Mucosal bridge is a very rare condition characterised by a cord-like elastic stretchable structural mucosal connection across the intestinal lumen like a bridge, which is usually seen in any site from oesophagus to colon. It is frequently Mucosal Bridge in Oesophagus

Barrett's oesophagus: epidemiology, diagnosis and clinical management.
Barrett's oesophagus is a condition characterised by partial replacement of the normal squamous epithelium of the lower oesophagus by a metaplastic columnar epithelium containing goblet cells (intestinal metaplasia). Barrett's oesophagus is important clinically because those afflicted are predisposed to oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Prevalence surveys suggest that up to 2% of the population may b...

Barrett's oesophagus is premalignant. Oesophagectomy is traditionally regarded as the standard treatment option in the presence of high grade intraepithelial neoplasia or intramucosal cancer. However, oesophagectomy is associated with high rates of mortality and morbidity. Endoscopic ablative therapies are limited by the lack of tissue for histological assessment, and the ablation may be incomp...

The structural organization of catfish GIT consist of a short, thick-walled oesophagus connected with Jshaped stomach which terminates into three segmented intestine. The histology of gut wall, particularly oesophagus, reveals four typical layers, namely, serosa, muscularis, submucosa and mucosa. The innermost mucosal epithelium is stratified and is made up of basal cuboidal cells, intermediate...

We report a very rare case of primary low grade mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the oesophagus. An 83 year old woman was referred to our hospital in June 1999 for further examination and treatment of oesophageal tumour. Although a physical examination and laboratory data showed no significant abnormalities, endoscopic observation revealed two slightly elevated submucosal tu...
متن کاملAblation of Barrett's oesophagus: towards improved outcomes for oesophageal cancer?
Barrett's oesophagus is the major risk factor for the development of oesophageal adenocarcinoma. The management of Barrett's oesophagus entails treating reflux symptoms with acid-suppressing medication or surgery (fundoplication). However, neither form of anti-reflux therapy produces predictable regression, or prevents cancer development. Patients with Barrett's oesophagus usually undergo endos...
